The American Nystagmus Network’s 2019 Conference
Dance like your eyes dances… even when the world is watching!
July 26-28, 2019
Washington, D.C.
The American Nystagmus Network’s 2019 biennial conference will be held July 26-28, in our nation’s capital, Washington D.C. Read about the city selection.
The conference theme inspires us to have confidence and accept our nystagmus. Embrace your eyes; they make you you! At the 2019 conference, you will learn to let the world see your eyes move, with courage and grace! (Shout out to Haley Hartzog and Jacquelyne Hostetler for suggesting the theme on Facebook!)
Note that we made 2 updates to the agenda: The dinner on Saturday has been pushed to 7:00 pm due to the room availability. Second, Dr. Avery Weiss is unable to attend due to health reasons. Dr. Donsheng Yang (who formerly worked with Dr. Hertle) will fill in to present the surgical treatment.
The special program tailored specifically for young children, Camp Nystagmus, returns for its Washington DC version! Camp Nystagmus is offered for children in grades pre-K to 8th grade. It is for children with nystagmus, siblings without nystagmus, and children of parents with nystagmus. The camp provides an opportunity for students to realize they are not alone. Everyone at camp is connected by nystagmus!

Hey, these prices are more than last time! What gives? ANN attempts to set registration costs to be affordable to attendees. To keep registration costs low, ANN covers the difference between the discounted registration fee and the true cost per attendee. (The true cost per attendee is approximately $375/person). Stated, the more people attend, the greater the costs for ANN. The 2017 conference in Minneapolis far exceeded our expectations on attendance. We budgeted for 150 attendees but welcomed over 200! While this made for a spectacular event, it also meant that ANN’s costs were significantly higher than projected, nearly doubling our planned expenditures. Therefore, in 2019 we offer a discounted registration rate to the first 150 attendees (based on our budget). From the 151st attendee and on, registration is a flat rate of $250. This ensures that the total cost to ANN for the conference is fixed, regardless of how many attend.
