WHAT IS NYSTAGMUS?

Nystagmus is an involuntary movement of the eyes which often reduces vision. Some people with Nystagmus can not drive and most encounter difficulties in everyday life, education, and employment.

WHO GETS NYSTAGMUS?

Anyone can get Nystagmus. Every year thousands of children are born to parents with no known family history of Nystagmus as well as to families where the condition already exists. Nystagmus which occurs in infancy has many names including Congenital Nystagmus, Infantile Nystagmus, and Early Onset Nystagmus. Each year, thousands of adults develop (acquire) Nystagmus due to accidents or illnesses such as stroke or multiple sclerosis. This is generally known as Acquired Nystagmus.

THE AMERICAN NYSTAGMUS NETWORK, INC. (ANN)

ANN is a registered 501(c)(3) charity with over 1,000 members.

ANN was the first support group in the United States for people with Nystagmus.

ANN helps numerous people each year by phone or email, plus thousands more through its events, website, publications, listserv, Facebook, and Twitter.

ANN has an established scholarship program that awards multiple scholarships each year to young men and women pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees.

ANN helps to educate people about Nystagmus: its causes, effects, and ways to manage it.

ANN hosts biennial conferences providing valuable opportunities for individuals to gather information and network with others from the Nystagmus community.
