The ANN Conference
Since hosting its first conference in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1999, ANN holds conferences every other year in different cities across the country to discuss Nystagmus and socialize. These conferences are designed to bring together both Nystagmites (as we sometimes call ourselves) and those who love us. Topics vary from conference to conference, but typically include presentations from medical experts and discussions on insurance, low vision driving, IEP/504 plans, living with Nystagmus, youth and adult discussion panels, and assistive technologies.
Conferences typically run from Friday to Sunday. Conferences begin on Friday with dinner, a keynote speaker, and socialization. Saturday is packed with presentations, discussions, and multiple breakout sessions. Each conference concludes on Sunday with breakfast and a member meeting. The goal of each conference is to educate and help our families better understand how we see the world and what’s out there to help us all live life to the fullest.
If you talk to anyone who has attended one of our conferences, you will usually hear them described as a life-changing experience. Conferences give hope to parents who don’t know what is in store for their children and it gives a lot of Nystagmites the chance to meet someone who truly understands their world. Frequently, this is the first time many of us have ever met someone else with Nystagmus. We sincerely hope that you will be able to join us at our next conference.
